چکیده

Abstract Mass transfer between crust and mantle at continental margins is a crucial process in shaping heterogeneity material cycling deep Earth. usually archived by the slab-derived and/or asthenosphere-derived component, which metasomatize cratonic wedge. Clarifying origin temporal sequences of these records fundamental aim yet poorly resolved. Comprehensive petrography, whole-rock mineral compositions [including platinum group elements (PGE)], zircon U–Pb ages, trace elements, Hf isotopes Maowu ultramafic body (comprising harzburgites garnet orthopyroxenites) Dabie orogen (Central China) are presented this study to decode complex metasomatic histories beneath southern North China Craton (NCC). Oceanic slab melting and mantle metasomatism.

Modern plate tectonic brings down oceanic crust along subduction zones where it either dehydrates or melts. Those hydrous fluids or melts migrate into the overlying mantle wedge trigerring its melting which produces arc magmas and thus additional continental crust. Nowadays, melting seems to be restricted to cases of young (< 50 Ma) subducted plates. Slab melts are silicic and strongly sodic (t...

Origin of Lherzolitic Peridotites in Ab-Bid Ultramafic Complex (Hormozgan Province); Products of Mantle Metasomatism or Partial Melting Processes?

Lherzolite is one of the main units in the Ab-Bid ultramafic complex from Esfandagheh-HadjiAbad coloured mélange (South of Iran). The complex contains harzburgite, dunite, lherzolite and pyroxenite dykes and the lherzolites mainly occur in the margins. In the field, lherzolites occur as weakly foliated coarse-grained peridotites with shiny pyroxene grains and cut by neumerous pyroxenitic veins....

Pervasive seismic wave reflectivity and metasomatism of the Tonga mantle wedge.

Subduction zones play critical roles in the recycling of oceanic lithosphere and the generation of continental crust. Seismic imaging can reveal structures associated with key dynamic processes occurring in the upper-mantle wedge above the sinking oceanic slab. Three-dimensional images of reflecting interfaces throughout the upper-mantle wedge above the subducting Tonga slab were obtained by mi...

Slab devolatilization and Os and Pb mobility in the mantle wedge of the Kamchatka arc

Os-, Nd-, and Pb-isotope measurements were performed on a suite of eleven Kamchatka peridotite mantle xenoliths in volcanics from the southern (Avachinsky) and central (Sheveluch and Kharchinsky) segments of the Kamchatka peninsula. Peridotites with higher Os content (1.3–5.2 ppb) show a narrow Os / Os range between 0.1182 and 0.1272 while the xenoliths with lower Os content (b1 ppb) show a wid...

Hydrous origin of the continental cratonic mantle

We performed melting experiments of hydrous pyrolite at pressures from 3 to 8 GPa and temperatures from 1,100°C to 1,800°C to identify the origin of chemical variation in cratonic garnet peridotites with high contents of magnesian orthopyroxene. In hydrous conditions, the stability field of residual orthopyroxene expands relative to olivine above solidus, and the harzburgitic residue contains l...
